This notice explains the cookies and similar technologies we use on ncig.net, and sits alongside our Privacy Policy.
Change your choices
No cookie outside the strictly necessary category is written unless you allow it, and no service that could recognize you runs unless you allow it. You can change your mind whenever you like. We do count visits anonymously either way — explained just below.
How we count visits
We want to know roughly how many people visit and which coverages they read about. Google Analytics loads on every visit, but unless you accept analytics it runs with storage switched off.
In that state it writes nothing to your device, creates no identifier, and cannot tell that two page views came from the same person or recognize you on a later visit. What it reports is a count, not a profile. Nothing is shared for advertising and nothing is joined to any other information about you.
Accept analytics and it stores the cookies listed below and measures in the usual way. Reject analytics — or send a Global Privacy Control signal — and it stays in this anonymous mode: no cookies, no identifier, just the visit count. Because nothing is stored on your device and nothing identifies you, this is not a sale or sharing of personal information, and it is not what a Global Privacy Control signal opts you out of.
Global Privacy Control
We recognize and honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser or extension sends GPC, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising — analytics and marketing cookies are switched off automatically and we won't ask you again. You can still turn them on yourself if you want to. The anonymous visit count described above continues, because it stores nothing and identifies nobody.
Separately, most browsers offer a Do-Not-Track (DNT) setting. Because there is still no agreed standard for how sites should interpret DNT, we do not respond to those signals. GPC is the signal we act on.
Categories we use
The tables below cover cookies and the equivalent browser storage — local storage and session storage — because both put data on your device and the law treats them the same way. Where an entry is browser storage rather than a cookie, it says so.

UserWay | Powers the accessibility toolbar — larger text, contrast, screen-reader profiles — and remembers the settings you turn on as you browse. These are kept in your browser's local storage rather than as cookies, so they are never sent to our server. uw-uid is a random identifier UserWay assigns your browser; the userway-s entries hold the toolbar's own settings. They are written when the page loads, not when you first use the toolbar. The toolbar loads for everyone, without waiting for a cookie choice: an assistive tool you had to accept tracking to use would defeat its own purpose. Other services that see your visit
These don't set cookies, but your browser fetches files from them in order to display the page, which means each one receives your IP address. They are listed here because a notice that only covered cookies would leave that out.

Changing your mind
Turn a category off whenever you like — “Reject all” sits beside “Accept all” wherever you're asked. We then delete that category's cookies from our own domain and reload the page, so anything in it stops there and then. Google Analytics keeps counting visits in the anonymous mode described above, without cookies.
Cookies stored under someone else's domain are outside our reach. We stop asking for them, but only your browser can clear the ones already set.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so may stop parts of the site working — for example, we'd no longer remember that you asked us not to track you, and the quote form's spam check may refuse your submission.
